For over three decades, Bangert Piano Service has focused on providing full service, high quality work on all pianos in Anne Arundel county and the greater Baltimore area. As a full time piano technician who offers action regulation, as well as piano rebuilding services, Bangert Piano Service has developed a thorough knowledge of piano parts and functions through experience and ongoing continuing education to successfully diagnose and implement corrective procedures for the many issues pertaining to piano maintenance and repair.
Bangert Piano upholds and applies the rigorous standards set forth by the Piano Technicians Guild. Rob and Ryan have both earned the title of Registered Piano Technician (RPT). To become an RPT, one must pass a series of three extensive tests. The first evaluates ones knowledge and understanding of piano design, tuning theory, repair techniques, and other topics pertaining to piano technology. The second test evaluates ones ability to accurately complete many repairs, as well as to be able to assemble and regulate both vertical and grand piano actions, in a timely and professional manner. In the third test, the tuning exam, the candidate must tune a piano that has been ” master tuned” and then detuned by a panel of tuning experts. The results are then measured using sensitive electronics to reveal any deviations from the established master tuning.
Together with plentiful years of experience dealing with cloth, felt, piano wire, wood and other materials found in pianos, the knowledge and expertise of Bangert Piano is prepared to service all makes and models of pianos.

My Story
Rob Bangert began learning to play the piano when he was 13 years old. Auditioning for and being accepted into Towson University’s (formerly Towson State University) piano performance program took his playing to the next level, where he studied under world-renowned concert pianist Reynaldo Reyes. When a former student of Mr. Reyes called to inquire of recommendations for a summer internship in a piano rebuilding shop, Rob was endorsed by Mr. Reyes and immediately accepted the position. This initial position whet Robs appetite for the trade and upon graduation from Towson, he completed the lesson offered by the American School of Piano Tuning while also enlisting the help of various piano technicians in the area to hone his skills. Rob was introduced to the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG), and found a well-versed source of like – minded individuals who helped him excel at the craft of piano technology. The associations through the PTG ultimately led to positions working in other piano shops and for various piano dealerships before establishing the his own full time piano service, Bangert Piano.
In 1992, Rob passed all of the exams offered by the PTG to receive the designation of a Registered Piano Technician (RPT). Since that time, he’s continued to grow and expand upon his knowledge of the piano through ongoing self-study, continuing education and training, and attendance at regional and national conferences and conventions. Rob has received specialized training at the Steinway factory, the Yamaha Little Red Schoolhouse, and the Shigeru Kawai Institute, where he focused on advanced piano regulation and voicing techniques.
Rob enjoys servicing pianos for a large clientele, primarily in Anne Arundel County, including churches, schools, concert venues, piano teachers, and individual musicians. A longtime member and past president of the Baltimore chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild, Rob is proud to offer the highest level of service available to his clients for all of their piano needs; he “loves working on pianos!”
Ryan Bangert, RPT
My Story
Ryan Bangert has been a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) with the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) since July 2015. He earned his RPT designation at the Piano Technicians Guild Annual Convention and Institute in Denver, Colorado, where he successfully passed the tuning examination after previously completing the written and technical (bench) examinations, which evaluate piano regulation and repair skills.
In addition to the extensive training he received from his father, Rob Bangert, Ryan has attended numerous PTG conventions, institutes, and educational classes to further expand his knowledge in the highly technical and intricate field of piano technology. He believes that lifelong learning is essential to providing the highest level of service and is committed to continually refining his skills to ensure exceptional care for every instrument he services—from the smallest spinet to the largest concert grand.
For more than a decade, Ryan has served as Head Piano Technician for one of Maryland’s largest county public school systems. In that role, he has tuned thousands of pianos and maintained a fleet of hundreds of instruments, ensuring they remain in excellent playing condition. In addition to his institutional work, Ryan serves a large and growing clientele of private customers throughout central Maryland.
Ryan’s musical education began at an early age with piano studies under Christina Giorgilli at what was then the Towson State University Music Preparatory School. As his interests evolved, he shifted his focus to guitar and, after initial instruction, was accepted as a student of renowned jazz guitarist Steve Abshire. Ryan continued studying with Mr. Abshire throughout high school, culminating in his acceptance into Towson University’s Jazz Studies program as a guitar performance major.
After one year in the Jazz Studies program, Ryan chose to pursue a business degree while continuing his private studies with Steve Abshire. He remained Mr. Abshire’s student until 2025, when Mr. Abshire relocated to another state. Throughout his musical career, Ryan has performed professionally as both a jazz and rock guitarist.
Ryan’s combined background as a professional musician and highly trained piano technician gives him a unique understanding of the needs of pianists and the instruments they play. His technical expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to ongoing professional development enable him to provide exceptional service to schools, churches, performance venues, and private piano owners alike.

The Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) is an internationally recognized organization with over four thousand members across the globe, mostly in the U.S. It offers the only recognized piano certification program in the piano industry; the Registered Piano Technician certification.
The success that I have achieved as a piano technician is the direct result of my affiliation in the PTG. The friends and acquaintances that I have met across the country have enriched my life and helped me to excel in the craft that I love. Many of us are very passionate about pianos- from exchanging ideas on complex rebuilding issues to simply enjoying listening to the piano, either in concert or during a tuning. We openly and willingly share our experiences and knowledge with each other to help elevate the level of piano technology throughout our regions and around the world.
